The European Commission published on March 10th a new Strategy to help Europe’s industry lead the twin transitions towards climate neutrality and digital leadership. The Strategy aims to drive Europe’s competitiveness and its strategic autonomy at a time of moving geopolitical plates and increasing global competition.

According to the press release of National Bank of Romania, in its meeting of 15 May 2019, the Board of the National Bank of Romania decided: to keep the monetary policy rate at 2.50 percent per annum; to leave unchanged the deposit facility rate at 1.50 percent per annum and the lending facility rate at 3.50 percent per annum; and to maintain the existing levels of minimum reserve requirement ratios on both leu- and foreign currency-denominated liabilities of credit institutions.

Industrial production up by 1.3% in euro area and up by 1.2% in EU28
In May 2017 compared with April 2017, seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 1.3% in the euro area (EA19) and by 1.2% in the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In April 2017 industrial production rose by 0.3% in euro area and by 0.1% in the EU28. In May 2017 compared with May 2016, industrial production increased by 4.0% in both zones.

New financing options for Romanian SMEs
The European Investment Fund (EIF) and Raiffeisen Bank, have signed a COSME agreement that will allow the Bank to provide RON 800,000,000 (ca. EUR 177m) in loans to small and medium-sized Romanian businesses.
Robust growth sustained by fiscal easing
Real GDP growth is forecast to remain strong over the forecast horizon, supported by fiscal easing and wage increases. Unemployment decreased significantly in 2016 and is projected to remain stable at low levels. With a positive output gap and the impact of previous tax cuts fading, inflation is set to pick up. The general government deficit is projected to widen due to tax cuts and public spending increases.
