The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending EUR 22.3m to Garanti Bank Romania to support businesses in Romania. EUR 5m of the loan amount is devoted to female entrepreneurs, matched by another EUR 5m from Garanti Bank. This transaction is backed by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), the financial pillar of the Investment Plan for Europe, or „Juncker Plan”.

EUR 450 million for Romania’s Rural Development Programme
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending EUR 450 million to Romania to finance its national contribution to the implementation of the Romanian Rural Development Programme (RDP) together with grants from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development in the period 2014-2020. The loan was signed on the margins of the meeting of the EIB’s Board of Directors taking place in Bucharest on 17-18 September.

The European Investment Bank has published the report EIB Operations Inside the EU 2017, EIB measures its success in terms of its contribution to EU policy, the quality and soundness of the projects it finances, and the technical and financial contribution it makes to each project.
EIB Group in Romania
The European Investment Bank Group, comprising the European Investment Bank (EIB) and its subsidiary, the European Investment Fund (EIF), provided close to EUR 1.9bn of new loans, guarantees and equity investment in Romania in 2017. More than EUR 1.3bn in loans came from the EIB and EUR 551m from the EIF in the form of guarantees and equity investments in small businesses to sustain their growth. The EIB Group’s support for Romania therefore represents some 1.04% of the country’s GDP, placing Romania fifth among EU Member States in this respect, and above the EU average of 0.46%. The group concluded four operations under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), which is part of the Investment Plan for Europe.
