As shown in the Bank Lending Survey – February 2020, published by the National Bank of Romania on March 2nd, in the final quarter of 2019, credit standards for non-financial corporations changed marginally, both at aggregate level and by company size and loan maturity. Most of the factors that may have a bearing on credit standards did not impact the latter. The only elements that played a role in the tightening of credit standards were the current or expected capital position of the bank, as well as the NBR’s monetary policy decisions and prudential measures.

The National Bank of Romania has published at the end of February the Bank Lending Survey. The survey is conducted on a quarterly basis by the NBR in January, April, July and October.
Area bank lending survey
The October 2018 bank lending survey – third quarter of 2018 has been published. The euro area bank lending survey (BLS) provides information on bank lending conditions in the euro area. It supplements existing statistics with information on the supply of and demand for loans to enterprises and households. The BLS provides input to the assessment of monetary and economic developments carried out by the ECB Governing Council in the process of making its monetary policy decisions.
Lending to non-financial corporations
According to the survey on the access to finance of the non-financial corporations in Romania published this month by the National Bank of Romania, lending to non-financial corporations in terms of credit standards tended to stagnate in 2018 Q1 both at aggregate level and by category. For in 2018 Q2, banks expect credit standards to remain unchanged.
Lending to non-financial corporations
The National Bank of Romania has published in February the Bank Lending Survey. The survey shows that in the final quarter of 2017, credit institutions preserved their credit standards on loans for house and land purchase to households and tightened marginally those for consumer credit. As for non-financial corporations, lending conditions applicable to them stayed flat against the previous quarter. For the first quarter of 2018, credit institutions envisage a marginal tightening of credit standards for both housing loans and consumer credit. Conversely, credit standards applicable to non-financial corporations are anticipated to hold steady in 2018 Q1 as well.
Credits standards for households
According to the Bank Lending Survey published by the National Bank of Romania, in 2017 Q2, banks tightened significantly credit standards for loans for house and land purchase as well as for consumer credit. Credit institutions pointed to the following determinants behind this evolution: the NBR’s monetary policy decisions or prudential measures, expectations regarding general economic context, requirements concerning the level of indebtedness, expectations regarding households’ financial standing and the risk on borrower’s creditworthiness.
